Texas Independence Webquest Introduction: Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin are some of the big names we hear about in Texas history. The Battle of Gonzales, Battle of the Alamo, Goliad Massacre, and the Battle of San Jacinto are all important battles that played large roles in the history of the state. We will be taking the famous names and the important battles and researching them to put together a presentation for your classmates to learn about the important fight for the independence of Texas. Your team will create a Power Point, Hyperstudio or iMovie about the Texas Revolution. You will need to research an assigned person or battle involved in the Texas Revolution. The WebQuest will guide you through the research process and provide helpful websites for your project. The Task: In groups or three students, gather information on a specific battle or the individual you are assigned. Create a presentation that will be presented in class as an iMovie, Hyperstudio, or Power Point project. You will be evaluated on the information you gather as a group as well as the final presentation. The Process: In your groups, use the website links available in the Resources section to research your battle or person. Have one person in your group serve as the Internet Manager (this person will be the one on the computer in charge of surfing the net), another person will be Director of Research (they will direct the Internet Manager to sites that would be useful in their search), the final member of the group will serve as Recorder of Information (they will document the information that the group deems useful and necessary for the project). Jobs will be alternated so each student can have a chance to try them all. From the information you have gathered, you will create your final presentation. Decide which format would work best for you; an iMovie, Hyperstudio, or Power Point. If you are researching a battle, let me know the names of group members and; 1. What is the name of your battle? 2. When did the battle happen? 3. Where did the battle happen? 4. Who were the main people on each side? 5. Who won the battle? ________________________ 6. What were the results/consequences of the battle? Also document the website where you found the information. If you are researching an individual, let me know the names of group members and; 1. What is the name of your person? 2. When did your person live? 3. What are they famous for? 4. Where did they gain their fame? 5. Why are they important in Texas history? 6. How did they help Texas gain their independence? Also document the website where you found the information. |
