Oak View Elementary School October 2009 Newsletter

Michael Scully, Principal                                   Deborah Anderson, Asst. Principal

Message from the Office

Our test scores went up by four points and we are now at the 847 point level.  There are few schools in the area that increased their scores and are over the 800 mark.  In other news we will be having an in-service day on October 5th.  These meetings will be hosted by the publishers of our new textbooks and will give us more direction in using the materials to maximize their potential.  Please remember if you ever have questions about your child please do not hesitate to contact the teacher or one of the administrators.  Mrs. Anderson and I are always out on the school grounds before and after school if you need to speak to us.  We will make time to meet anyone at anytime.

We also would like to remind parents and the students to have healthy snacks.  Many students are bringing candy as their recess snack.  We also are having many students not following the dress code.  Please review the rules with your child.

Parent Teacher Club News

The PTC would like to announce the Box Top/Campbell Soup label winners for September.  The winning class was Mr. Andrade’s 2/3 combo room.  The whole class was treated to donuts.  The Box Tops/Campbell soup labels are collected the last Friday of every month.  The class with the most Box Tops and or soup labels receives donuts the following Monday. We had our 1st PTC sponsored assembly on Sept. 3rd called Prismatic Magic Laser Show. It has been pretty quiet this month; which has been good for planning the Jog-a-thon, Halloween Carnival, Spirit of the Season and Crab Feed. Please send in one bag of candy per student (that has individually wrap pieces, no gum) for the Halloween Carnival on Friday 30th. Many THANKS to Tracy Lavagnino for collecting and cashing in the recycles for the year end treats. Also many thanks to Traci, Lora, Heather, Angelia and Sandy.

Outreach News

The great race to earn Popcorn Parties has started!  “Project Popcorn” recognizes those classes working hard to be here on time all the time.  Congratulations to Mrs. Visitacion’s class for being our “Top Dogs” in September.  They just earned their 1st party with 15 days of perfect attendance! School wide our attendance percentage for the month of September was 97.73%.  Nice work!  Remember, our goal is to keep that number above 97%.  Please avoid unnecessary absences or tardies. Watch for information regarding Red Ribbon Week.  We will have a kick-off assembly, classroom contests, and spirit days as our school celebrates its commitment to remain drug free.  Red Ribbon Week will be from October 26-30, 2009.

Student Body Council News

The student body council and the CJSF are hosting a softball game and barbeque on    October 5th at 5 PM here at the school.  They are hoping that everyone can come and support these organizations by having dinner with us.
