Michael Scully, Principal Deborah Anderson, Asst. Principal Preparing for STAR Success Beginning next week our students will again participate in California’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The results of the STAR Assessments are used to identify students who could benefit from additional assistance and to help evaluate our school’s academic growth. It is important that all children be encouraged to do their best on this test. As parents or guardians, you play an important role in the testing process by helping your child do his/her best. Here are some suggestions for support that you can give at home. · Make sure your child gets enough rest the night before the test · Make sure your child eats a good breakfast before the test · Make sure your child has enough time in the morning to get ready for school · Explain to your child the importance of trying his/her best on the test · Let your child know that he/she has your support regardless of how well they do Your child will be taking the STAR Assessment beginning April 20 through May 1. Parent Teacher Club News The PTC would also like to announce the Box Top/Campbell soup labels winners for March. The winning class was Miss Nelsen’s Kindergarten class. The whole class was treated to donuts. Mrs. Romine’s class came in second. Her class was also treated to donuts. The Box Tops/Campbell soup labels are collected the last Friday of every month. The class with the most Box Tops receives donuts the following Monday. The Spring Fling / Fine Arts Night was a success. With the art and the silent auction we made about $900 to go towards supplies for our teachers. If you missed out the art will be for sale again at Open House. Thank you to all who participated in the Zbest coupon book fundraiser and sold books or returned your book. If you still have not returned your Zbest book it was due March 27th please send it back to school. The PTC will be purchasing teacher supplies with the money we made from the Zbest coupon books. School Site Council News At this time the School Site Council is working on updating the School Plan. If you would like to add any comments please email Mr. Scully or come to the next meeting. They are open meetings that are on the third Thursday of every month at 3:00pm. Outreach News We are headed back up on our attendance rate. In the month of March, our attendance was 96.01% and our school average for the year is 96.87%. Remember our goal is to keep these two numbers above 97%. Please avoid any unnecessary absences or tardies! Congratulations to Mrs. Macintosh’s class for being “TOP DOGS” again this month in our Project Popcorn Program. As of March 31st they had 82 bags, followed by Miss VanEgmond’s class (74 bags) and Mr. Andrade’s class (71 bags). NICE JOB!
