Have you ever wondered about the effects of drugs on the heartbeat?

This lab will give you the opportunity to explore the effects of caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol on an organism's heartbeat. Using a simple crustacean called Daphnia you will be able to see first hand the way in which common ingested chemicals affect one's heartbeat. This lab is for any course emphasizing health, physiology, anatomy, and drug education courses. Physiology of the Circulatory System has been aligned with the state standards, is a hands on lab activity that incorporates small group interaction, uses readily available equipment, and helps students to form opinions about drug use.
